Well sort of...

I've finally had a chance to update my old website, it's got a lot of new images as well as some of my better older images. The best part of my updated website is I've added my animation reel. I've been doing a lot of 3D character animation tests and I've re-shifted my focus to animation. I'll probably be posting more of animation tests here in my blog, as I work on them as well as some of my usually sketches. I hope everyone checks in from time to time to critique my work!

Saturday's Pin Event

Hey everyone, my pin signing this weekend went really well! Thank you so much to those of you who might be reading that came to support me and pick up a pin or two of mine despite to rain and gloom that morning! I was really surprised to see the crowd. While walking through the store to the tables they had set up for us to sign at, I glanced outside and saw a line at the 1/2 way mark of the World of Disney store! Now I'm not sure if anyone knows or has been to this store before but it's a looooong store. Just seeing that was really surprising especially since I had heard that releases of Cast Create-a-Pins were usually less attended than regular pin events. But more surprising was that I heard later that the line I saw actually extended nearly to the end of the building! Now I know it wasn't just for me but it was really amazing to see such a turnout and a wonderful experience that I hope to have again someday (I'm working on my design for the next Create-a-Pin contest now!) Here're some pictures from the event, thanks so much again to those of you who came!Even my fiance stopped by...The three artists together again...Here's a close-up of the pin itself. (Sorry for the poor quality, because of the size and the metal I was having trouble scanning and photographing it.)Afterwards we took some more pictures of all 3 of us pin design winners and they gave me this framed picture of my design which includes my original concept I submitted, an early color version of the pin and an artist proof copy of the pin, along with 4 other artist proofs of the pin. I was so thrilled! It was more than I had expected!I haven't taken it out of the wrapping as of yet, unfortunatly I don't have a place to hang it right now...

Hey Everybody, I'm not sure if anyone even stops by my blog anymore but for the few of you who do I wanted to let you know about a few cool things there were going on. First and foremost my girlfriend and I are now fiance and fiancee! Eunice and I have known right from the beginning that we were right for each other, but now we're really committed towards working on a future together!Also the other news is about the pin design that I mentioned a while back that Disney is making. Here's my original drawing:

Yes, you guys are right, I need to post more of my artwork. Well here's something new: October's Sketch of the Month I made for the store I work at in Disney's California Adventure. Come on down to Off the Page during the whole month of October and come pick up a Brian Growe original! Nice! As always, more info is at the Disney gallery Website!

Also, I talked over my pin design with the artist who will be sculpting my Create-A-Pin design at Disneyland. It sounds like the pin will be ready and I'll be having a signing for this pin in January. When it gets a little bit closer to the release I've been told it will be alright to show my original design here, so I'll post that sometime soon too.

Well, it's taking a long time but I'm actually starting to get some of my artwork out there finally. It's just a little thing, but I'm excited about it. Every year where I work (at Disneyland) they have a contest to pick designs from those of us who work there to make into new trading pins that some people go real real crazy for. This year one of my designs was picked! Yay! I'm not sure what the exact timeline will be for producing the pin til the release date, but when it's released they usually have a whole event where the 3 of the people who won have a signing. I've never done something like that before so I'm kinda nervous about that part though. I just can't wait to see it done, I'm really excited! I'll have to find out if I can post my original concept, but if I can I'll do it right away!

At The Con 08

I finally have a few moments after San Diego's Comic Con this year to post some pictures. I didn't take as many as last year, but that's cause I was having a lot of fun! It was good hanging out with the entire Hard Ei8ht group and seeing a lot of friends I hadn't seen for a while. We sold some books, I picked up a lot of books (I gotta take a picture of my loot huh?), went to a couple cool panels and met a lot of nice people. Believe it or not this mob is actually a line to get into Hall H at the convention center. The largest room there, where the most popular panels would be held. In was in this crowd mainly to see the Heroes panel then to see the sneak peaks of Disney's Bolt and Pixar's Up. I got in, whoo hoo!

I'm essentially finished with my Hard Ei8ht story now so I have time to work on a lot of other things. Good timing too since I'm working some more hours drawing at the D-land for the Spring/Easter Break that's coming up. I'm also just getting back into 3D animation so maybe I'll have some of that to post sometime soon.

First of all this, if you remember earlier I was working on this in ink before I got caught up in work and Ei8ht. I started doing the color for this a while back but it's new to you guys right?
Hopefully I can finish this someday, but for now, some doodles from work:
I've always wanted to post a page straight out of my sketchbook like you see so many people do. This is just the first time I've had a page of sketches I thought was half-way decent enough to do so with.

I can't believe I forgot how much fun it was just to cafe sketch. So tonight I make some more doodles perhaps?

I've always loved Porco Rosso and his plane. Somehow I found the time over the last year to, little by little, cut, sand, sculpt and glue together a handmade model of Porco's Savoia plane (as well as all that to a couple fingers too). It's not entirely complete yet, with a few little details still missing but I felt I wanted to share my progress to all of you anyways. Enjoy!

Hi all,
Sorry to being so negligent to my poor blog and all of you here. Been working hard at Disneyland, getting more involved at my church, working hard on my animation reel and spending as much as I can with the love of my life! Well, here's a few goodies with my apologies, enjoy!

For starters, why should the people at Nickelodeon be the only people to enjoy this privilege? Direct from our Nickelodeon show in Burbank California, here's a tiny taste of what's to come in Hard Ei8ht Vol 2.And here's some doodles from Disneyland. Most from just before Christmas. Now, I know a lot of people wonder what goes on behind the scenes at Disneyland, but it's really not that exciting, mostly a lot of sleepy looking people watching TV, eating or checking their cell phones.
But as you can see here there is the occasional character without it's head. (Parents, cover your children's eyes)
For a while now I've thought it would be funny to make a Scrubs-ish show about us Cast Members at Disney. Looking at these again makes me really wish we could do something like that.

Mi amiga Miss Eren Blanquet suggested I post a few of my paintings, so why not? Both of these pictures are from scans of slides I had to make for the class, so I apologize in advance for their poor quality. First up, here's one of the few paintings I actually finished for my plein-air painting class in college, from Upper Newport Backbay...And here's a picture I snapped of the scene as I was packing up. You can see how fast the tide is coming in... Of course this was when the sun finally decided to come out too. But despite the weather and fast moving tides that force you to paint really really fast, this is definitly one of my favorite places to paint or even just to visit.

My dog Molly definitly was the inspiration for me when I made my first short film at Cal State Fullerton called "Treasures", a simple little story about a dog chasing a crab on the beach. And when I started creating new storyboard samples I decided I wanted to revisit this story for my portfolio. Toned-paper rules!

Just recently I was given a toned sketchbook from my friend Becky to try out. I was always a bit frightened to try to draw on toned paper. I guess the idea of adding the highlights and shadows always seemed a little daunting to me, but after trying it out with my new Kuretake brush pen, I was surprised how much I enjoyed it! I even went out to buy a few more books the next day 'cause I knew I might be going through this first one more quickly than I thought. Here's a couple little collages I made of some of my better sketches. I know that they're not that great, but they sure were fun to do!

Hello again! Alright!, barely more than a week after my last post and here I am posting again! Well, not only am I having a lot of fun drawing and posting this, but hopefully I'm availing myself of any "on notice" lists or e-bombs from Osgood. This evening I was having a little fun wrestling with a piece of dialog I wanted to traditionally animate. I'm not sure where it's from, and obviously I was having a little trouble drawing the hands on the last pose, but it's definitely been a really great drawing challenge for me! These are some of my thumbnails from about the first third of the dialog, enjoy!

Wow, after only two weeks of not posting Osgood's already about to put me on his "on-notice" list again?! Yipes! Well, here's a few things that I've been working on lately, hopefully this will keep me off the list for now. After finishing and touching up my website and all the extra hours I've been putting in at my part-time job, I haven't had time to work on much of anything. These last couple days though I started to work on some new storyboard samples for my portfolio staring two of my favorite characters I created, Samurai Jill and Lucky the dog. Here's some preliminary sketches I did on the characters before I stared storyboarding as well as some new cafe sketches and an attempt to caricature my brother-in-law. Enjoy!

Ball-point pen Cafe Sketches

I usually do a lot of my regular sketching in ball-point pen, but I've been trying to avoid using it during cafe sketching because I tend to get a little too careful with my lines and hesitate on the final line. Lately I've been trying to improve my drawings faster by using larger markers and brush pens to get fast, direct, and simple strokes. These are a few exceptions to that, drawn in the few hours before going into the theater to see Narnia. I had a lot of fun with these...

Hi everybody, I know some of you are wondering when I'm gonna post some more of my "browe-tastic stuff". I've been working on getting material together for my website lately and yesterday Mr. Cowboy Be-Buckley came by to show me the essentials to putting it all together. So hopefully my website will be up within a week. I'll keep you posted. But for now, here's one I'm workin' on based on one of the characters from my previous post.

Hey all! Yesterday I went sketching at the San Diego Wild Animal Park with my friend Becky! I haven't drawn animals for a long time so I was a little nervous at first, but in the end I was having so much fun that I think my drawings turned out better than I hoped! I wanted to do some watercolor sketches, but the animals were moving around and getting into such great poses I was just having a great time sketching them with my usual ball-point pen. Here are some of the better ones....!

Hey everybody, sorry about my mysterious absence from the blogging world these last few weeks. Here's my latest sketches. I've been taking swing dance lessons for a couple weeks now with some friends from work. It's fun, but with my passion for drawing I can't help bringing my sketchbook along and doing a few doodles between dances. Here's some sketches from the other night I did trying to figure out the movements as well as a drawing I did of one of the guys while hanging out at IHOP afterwards. Hope you likey!
